Foreign Office note of 24th January F.215/98/10. We agree with (1) the draft telegram to Sir A. Clark Kerr and (2) the note to the Chinese Ambassador subject to the following:-

(1) Line 9. "7th November" should

be "9th November".

I also suggest omitting the words "and leniently" in line 19.

(2) In the middle of paragraph 3 "personalities" might better be "personages".
